Removing "Stock" HU?

Featured Replies

Hi Guys/Girls,

As soon as my new proximty sensor is on the car, am gonna be changing my HU for a new one, not quite decided which yet, but its gonna have to have an AUX INput, for the CarPuter am gonna be building and installing for my MP3 collection amongst other things :D

So noticed this morning a couple of slits in the "stock" HU, so i presume i need a "special" tool to remove the HU......suggestions please ?

Available from Halfords. Or you could improvise with some of those "flat" picture hooks folded out, or something similar in dimensions...

Rob.

My dealer gave me a set FOC

Kenwood keys work with them.

Are the slots different in the Furby's HU - I tried all the keys in Halfords and none fit  . The dealer wouldn't sell / give me any (security, allegedly :finger: ), but in the end and old hacksaw blade snapped in half worked a treat!

Damn, i got an Old Kenny Hu too, but sadly i let a so called mate borrow the keys, never been seen since :thumbdwn:

Where can i get a set of Kenny keys btw??? Coz he as always said if i get a set he will pay me for them. Halfords maybe?

Cheers,

Lee

sod paying for keys. i tried getting mine out with a thick paperclip - don't do this...it WILL get stuck.

ended up prising off most me dash trim bits - they come off surprisingly easily with a flat blade.

i just jimmed two small penknife blades down each side until it came out. took a good 15 minutes though. still i now have my lovely shiny alpine mp3 BEAUTY installed :) the sound quality change is AMAZING plus i actually have a cd player now. lol

if you're competant enough try it. if not. take it to a car audio place.

The picture hook thing works a treat but i'd pop the trim off too, it makes the job much easier.

I popped round the back of a dealers when I was living in Essex, collared a mechanic and blagged 1 key (he'd lost the other one). 3 minutes later and I'd loosened out the OE unit and given the key back... never needed one since, so it's probably not worth buying one :)

Alternative methods that I've read about but never tried are

a) the reverse end of a zigsaw blade (or 2)

B) a flatish blade from a leatherman

Thinking on the spot... maybe a thickish feeler gauge may work if you've got one handy and it's not too wide :rubchin:

If you take the glovebox out you can push the HU from behind which makes removal a lot easier.

I used the nail file off one of the smaller swiss army knives

PM me for what ever you want to know mate

And a BIG thx guys for the suggestions - time to go get me an HU with an AUX input, being that my Sony dont have one

I saw a sliced up Debenhams gift voucher card being used this weekend. I'm sure either a sliced up Nectar card or AMEX black would work just as well :D

Mecca Bingo membership card also works well. :o BTW where'd you see the Debenhams card being used?

Err... in your car.

Is this some sort of secret society I've stumbled on or did you just cut up the wrong card?

I just have a bad memory.
