Air con help

Featured Replies

a long story but I have thrown too much money at this problem to let it go unfixed

I need a new compressor now as the old one has seized

is this something to contemplate 2nd hand or does it have to be new?

and lastly if new where would the best place be to get it

thanks

You won't want to see the cost of a new one, I would think you could get a s/h one from any Superb/Passat, although a chassis number could be crucial here, and also s/h is unknown quantity, so it's a risk, what makes you think it has seized btw?

My advice to you is take it to Kwack Fit and have a A/C top up done on it, tell them you've been told what you've been told and they will pressure check it with dye, when the gas leaves the a/c the system shuts down for protection, so an untrained eye might well think it's a component when all it is is £35 of gas required, you've got nothing to lose right now and could save yourself a few quid.

pressure is ok, 1st thing I did was change the gas, then the air con fan as it wasnt kicking in

Hmmm, not good mate, sounds like they got it right then, be careful if you go s/h, some parts rot out, if you plan to keep the car for at least 3 yrs I'd bite it and go for a new unit.
