How much for an Alloy Wheel Refurb?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I bought some 18" RS6 alloys on eBay. One wheel is quite badly scuffed, two have some light scuffs and the fourth is pretty much perfect.

I'm sure I've seen prices on here of around £40 a wheel or around £200 a set but I rang Londesborough Motors in Scarborough yesterday for a quote. They rang back and quoted me £137.80 inc VAT which I thought was quite good. Until they said "per wheel" !!

Is this not hugely expensive or have I have misread people on here?

Can anyone recommend anywhere near me that isn't as expensive? I live in Bridlington but can easily get to Scarborough or the Co. Durham / Newcastle area.

Cheers

That sounds fairly expensive to me, certainly shouldnt look at any more than £250 for the full set, worth shopping about a bit more methinks.

You could probably pick up some brand new ones for less than £137.80.

Anywhere between £40 - £60 a corner seems to be about the going rate.

My thoughts exactly. £550 for the set I could probably buy a new set of 18s with tyres for that.

I had my 17" done at these guys:

Alloy Wheel Refurbishment | Refurbish Alloy Wheels | Refurbish Wheels | Alloywheel Repair | Refurbished Alloy Wheels

They had some offer on in january and because I wasn't having new tyres fitted to them at the time (or any tyres to be fitted for that matter) the bill came to £180ish.

I'd say around the £250 mark is about right but don't be suprised if it's slightly higher (as you've found out!)

That's where I had my Leon and Octy wheels done.

The Octy Spiders were £40 each, without the tyres on ( as wheel sepcialist will strip and refit tyres to).

I've had a quote from them of over £300 but then they rang and said there is a June discount of 20% which brought it down to £260 the set.

I take everything was good through them then? I might stretch to that but we'll see.

Local chap does any I have for £50 + vat each. This includes him taking the tyre off, and refitting & balancing after too. He has all the gear which makes it great as a one-stop shop for wheel refurbs. He'll do £45 + vat if you don't want the inside of the rim doing.

Cheers but if it's Devon then thats a tad far to travel!!

The Wheel Specialist get a great reputation and have outfits around the country. Also, worth getting a price request in to them, as you then go on the mailing list and they often do good offers - x% off etc

Steve

Can vouch for the wheel specialist in birmingham.... did a brilliant job on my alloys in charcoal/anthracite.

That looks like an amazing job! Mine used to look like that, but after three years they have a few chips out of them.

Yella, I also asked at Londesborough Motors and was shocked by the cost. I do know of a bloke locally who sprays cars for a living and recently sorted a friends wheel, although don't know if it was classed as a refurb, more like touching up the damage. Give me a pm and I'll try to dig out his details when I get home.

p.s. He's near Staxton, so not too far away.

I think I might know where you might. Is he just on the left as you go out of Scarborough towards Staxton just before the roundabout?

I think he primarily advertises about being something to do with 4x4s but also does resprays.

That's the one. He did a great job on mine when the wife decided to see if the bumper on the Octavia was tougher than a brick pillar.:D

I contacted these people - [email protected] - and here was the quote for rolling in on the morning and driving away later in the day.

Alloy,17",Charcoal/Anthracite,Strip refit and balance - up to 17",Full refurbishment,Wheels waxed

Item Details

Alloy,17",Charcoal/Anthracite,Full refurbishment 4 £ 253.00

Strip refit and balance - up to 17" 4 £ 46.00

Wheels waxed 4 £ 23.00

Net Value £280.00

VAT Value £ 42.00

Gross Value £ 322.00

I suppose you don't have to have the wheels waxed which brings the quote in at about £300. Not too bad really considering the photo evidence of their work.

Nice one cheers.

When I had my 1968 MG I had that bloke highly recommended for a respray from the local MG specialist as one of the doors was a replacement and didn't quite match up. Didn't realise he did alloys though. Be worth an ask.

Cheers.
