iPod not working over mdi

Featured Replies

Good evening all.

I have had my Octavia for eleven days and have just received the mdi to ipod lead. I plugged the mdi end into the glovebox but the media-in option on the screen doesn't allow me to select an external media source.

If I put a CD in the drive and once its finished the initial disk read, press selections, then browse upwards through the CD folder structure I eventually come to a top-level selection which includes the MDI source. If I do not have an ipod or iphone connected, the MDI option says "MDI:AUX". If I plug the ipod/iphone in, it changes to "MDI:---".

I've found nothing on t'interweb about this so I rand the dealer in Newcastle who had only sold 2 of these leads one of which was mine and the other lead was on the desk in front of the chap at the dealer. I went to my local dealer who couldn't help either as the master tech chap isn't back until next week.

Can someone offer any assistance in the meantime?

I cant go pulling stuff out of the car as it's a company car (by the way) :rotz:

:)

I have only used my MDI once so far. An iPod has to be plugged in before you can select that source. If the battery in the iPod is so low that the unit will not turn on, it takes a couple of minutes after being plugged in for the option to light up.

Hope that helps.

I did read somewhere that it can take a while for the system to carry out the initial read of the ipod/iphone so when I tried it Saturday morning, the iphone had just come off of an overnight charge. I left it plugged into the MDI lead for around ten minutes and the screen didn't update with any information; it just displayed "MDI:---".

Could it be a firmware issue on the MDI unit, for use with the iPhone? Which iPhone do you have? I'm clutching at straws a bit, as it should just work :)

Worth trying the interface with a standard iPod, to see if it does the same?

Steve

Its a firmware issue, but not with the MDI unit, your columbus does not recognise the ipod and needs a firmware update for the ipod to be recognised. All the info you need and someone with the same issue can be found over on vwnavi.com

I've noticed this with my Bolero/RCD510 works fine with my ipod classic but its some times quite difficult to get it to work with my friends iPhone, though after plugging it in and out a few times it got there finally

Thanks for all the replies.

I've tried the MDI connection using a normal ipod (80Gb video) and the same thing happened.

I'll have a browse through the VWnavi website and will see if I can get the tech chappie at local Skoda dealer to resolve tomorrow.

I'll keep you all posted.
