Spingy resonance when put into third

Featured Replies

Sat in the car with the engine off after a drive I put the car in gear as I've parked up. I pop it into third and hear a springy noise and a resonance that appears as if it's coming from the mid to rear of the car (door open).

What on earth is this as I don't ever recall hearing this before.

Thanks

The transmission system only goes forward from where you sit. Could it be something loose reasonating against the exhaust pipe? Time to go on the ramps I think...

I tend to agree, was very odd.

Will see if it happens on the way home and book it in to be looked at if it's still there I think

Could a shift cable have come adrift from a clip and hit a heat shield or similar?

That was my first thought, but then why only in third and not 1st/5th?

Maybe just how the cables move to select 3rd? Dunno really, just guessing.
