Intercooler seals?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

My girlfriends Audi A3 2.0 TDI DSG is being serviced & they have just phoned to say that she needs new intercooler seals as they are leaking oil!!

Anybody know what they are talking about as I didn't think oil went anywhere near the IC?

Sorry it's a bit off topic as it's an Audi

Regards

Alex

I'll move this too general car chat.:)

A HA, thanks

lol

did she take it in?

sounds like they tryin to dither you mate, there is no seals on the intercooler i dont think, If anything there is oil coming out at the connection s for the boost pipes and cooler but thats all as there shouldnt be any oil, all it will be is oil vapour build up as the breathers fron the engine casing go back into the ind side so it goes thru and gets burnt off i think.

but as far as I know there are no seals on the intercooler, nor seals for oil???????????

all the best mate,

billy

My post appears to have got lost, but basically it's the breather or EGR and she would have to have reasonable miles to build up oil.

The intercooler cools air not oil.

yea thats y oil can build up in it but like you say you need to have a lot of miles for this. I recone they are either tryin to rip her off or they are on about something else????

My post appears to have got lost,

Not intentional,:confused:you must have clicked the same time as me when I moved it :)

The intercooler is an air-air unit. Oil can get into it through the PCB system, so if oil's dripping out the connectors, there is a fault, but it's not the intercooler (beyond maybe the pipe seal clips needing tightened.

and here was me assuming it was the connection at work going up and down.

Not a problem :)
