High miles

Featured Replies

Hi the car has done quite a few miles know just short of 100k ,

is there anything i should be changing to keep it going for aload more miles

Regular servicing - heck - MAINTENANCE - will keep it as good as new. The PD engines are good for mega miles and everything else is pretty much bulletproof or as good as it gets in terms of wear-and-tear items. I don't think there is any doubt that the Fabia I is a quality item, you just need to keep servicing it.

I like using a specialist (Unit 18 in particular) for my non oil-change work as that gives me a dealer stamp in the book for the 'service' and the specialist makes sure I replace the things that need replaced well in advance so I never feel the car getting 'slow', 'soft' or any of the other euphemisms for knackered parts having a deterimental effect on the car.

I had mine replaced with Cupra bushes at the rear and powerflex at the front and they do make the steering significantly sharper, but it constantly feels like I have a very, very slightly imbalanced wheel - you can feel everything through the steering wheel. If you can, try one before you get them done as you may not like it. I racked up 80,000 miles in just over two and a half years in mine, and it still feels remarkably tight.

The 312mm brake upgrade is well worth doing too. At 100,000 miles you're probably looking at a complete brake refurbish anyway.

And when the time comes to do the clutch, I'll be getting an uprated one.

I've never had mine remapped and I think it's probably too late now, but I've never felt it lacked go anyway.

change oil+filter every 3 months. And while doing that check the under carriage for wear and tear.

I'd also suggest changing fuel, air filter every 6 months. And if you really want to go further i'd get it undersealed by rustmaster. Clean EGR valve and turbo also. EGR valve can be cleaned with carb cleaner and the turbo with innotec.

A drop of millers diesel plus in fuel tank may help also on high mileage cars also use a specialist flushing oil to get rid of the crud before an oil change. Morris lubricants do a quality product for this i think on their website.
