Aftermarket HID Xenons

Featured Replies

Yep

All the new systems are designed to be at full brightness in around 0.5 secs :)

Carl

Only when the ignition is first turned on ;)

On the Octavia (2008 anyway) the xenon lights will ONLY auto level when the engine is running . They won't with just the ignition on, engine has to be running. If they do auto level with just the ignition they need the basic setting done.;)

Do you reckon they would be ok for flashing?

Technically, ONLY new cars that have Xenons fitted require the auto level and washers.

The only reason that aftermarket HIDS are illegal are the fact that they are not "E" marked and the law states that any cars not fitted with factory Xenons has to have a bulb with a filament.

The HIDS4U website states that the H1 main beam bulbs are ok for flashing

I've seen plenty of new cars with them in (got flashed by an Audi S5 the other day that had them) and they were bright as fooooook virtually instantly

See Here: HIDS4U FAQ Question 7 on the list.

For clarity

Carl, have you fitted them to the main beam or have you seen them? I'm a bit skeptical about the firing instantly to full brightness any better than the OEM's.

I dont have them i have Osram Nightbreakers in my Main Beams. However a mate of mine does and they do flash instantly. As i said i think they have a 0.5 sec strike time which is not something you notice especially in daylight. You may do at night if you are looking for it but i never have and my mate flashes me all the time when driving past. They are very very good and to me seem better than my Nightbreakers. But that is subjective and just my opinion plus i've only seen them in action on unlit country roads. I just aint paying £150 for them when my Nightbreakers do me just fine.

If you are unhappy you can return for a full refund. Just say they dont work as i enquired about a 55w kit for mine and got this reply

Hi Carl' date='

Many thanks for your enquiry. We list the Ultimate kit for your

car so can't 100% say if the 55W kit will be OK or not. If you

wanted to try it you are more than welcome to, and if it

doesn't work we do offer a 28 day return and refund policy.

Kind Regards

Ignoring the brightness, you'll kill the ballast lighting the things up and down regularly.

That is not correct.

Read through the following link:

Aftermarket HID (Xenon) headlamps

You'll see that after-market HIDs still need the same washer system - this is what makes fitting legal after-market HIDs cost prohibitive.

Ignoring the brightness, you'll kill the ballast lighting the things up and down regularly.

The ones from HIDS4U come with a 2 Year Guarantee so i reckon the Ballasts will be sturdy enough and i doubt many people will actually flash the lights that often to mean the Ballast is overworked.
