Indicator Noise on Superb/Elec Genius needed

Featured Replies

Just completed a 300 mile round trip in my lovely 55 plate 1.9tdi tiptronic and coming to hannover - almost home, feeling that this is the best car in the world .... when ....

there begins an intermittent indicator noise (click, click, click) at a fast pace - quicker than the hazard flashes and much faster than the regular indicator noise.

it persisted for about 30 secs after the indicator had been disengaged - and then more intermittently. stopped to check there were no probs with the indicators themselves - and there were not - all working fine.

just wondering if anyone has experienced the same, thanks a lot

More than likely a faulty stalk, pretty common fault on these (and the 3B Passat).

It's a standard VAG fault. A new column switch will fix it, but try removing the steering wheel cowling, putting an old towel under the switch and blasting it with half a spray can of electrical switch cleaner whilst operating the switch. This usually works.

The contact clearances are inadequate in these switches and eventually they fill with copper frag which bridges the contacts. The flasher relay design is also questionable - it will start to operate on a small leakage current from a contaminated switch.

As these column switches are a bit of a pain to change, a good clean out is worth a try.

Well done, VAG. These switches have been doing this for the last 10 years.

I have exactly the same problem. Just started yesterday. Any feedback on whether the solution given by rotodiesel worked? Also, any hints on how to remove the cowling around the steering column?

Thanks
