WALK fitting

Featured Replies

I will probably get a Whiteline WALK (KCA316) for my vRS. Wondering about the fitting though.

How tight is the hex pin in the lower link rear bush (the one that the WALK replaces)?

I have changed console bushes in Polo/Fabia 9N chassis before (which is a similar design) and its possible to just pull the link out of the bush - is this the case with the Octavia II chassis?

I have a press, if need be, but would like to know if there is a short cut (I'm thinking maybe I can remove the front bush bolt, free the front end of the link and then pull the link forward until the pin comes out of the rear bush, then swap the rear bush/bracket for the WALK item and push everything back together).

Sorry, had mine fitted for me, so can't help you. Didn't take long though, so can't imagine great forces are needed...

Yes, it should be an easy job, I'm just hoping to make it even easier/quicker!

are you going to replace the orher bush on the wishbone.

I have read on another forum about the other bush splitting possibly as a cause of it being made into the weakest link on the wshbone. (better to be safe than sorry), im also going to be replacing the lower wish bone, with the audi TT FWD version. lighter as they are made of aluminium(4kg each apparently) and you can get an extra 0.5 degree negative camber over oem settings.

I expecting the difference to be pretty vast from what i have now once I have the WALK, lower control arms and bushes fitted,

Have you been warned of any problems with the Front ARB once fitting the WALK

Does it affect it or do they compliment each other? Ive had a quick scan through GTi forums but can't seem to find a definitive answer

Carl:thumbup:

I havent heard or read about any problems with the walk or the front anti roll bars. I cant see why it would cause an issue.

I still havent fitted mine though.Im waiting on the TT lower control arms and bushes prior to fitting.

What is it that makes you think there could be a potential issue.

read through this guys threads. he's mega into sorting out the handling, braking and traction, but hasnt gone horse power hunting.

hopefully you wont get anything negative back.

Not getting into the ARB arguments again but IMO they should compliment each other very nicely.

I don't propose to change the link arm front bush when I fit the WALK. Looking at the Octy's suspension design leads me to think that the front bush is not under any great load (accel/deccel). I can't see why fitting a WALK should make the front bush work any harder - is their any evidence that they are failing early?

I don't see that ftting a WALK would have any impact on the ARB - there is quite sufficient compliance in the drop links to accommodate the small geometry change introduced by the WALK.

I would take a circumspect attitude toward fitting Audi TT front links. Yes, they are lighter and you will save a few pounds. BUT is the TT's suspension geometry the same as that of the Octavia? I suspect not. Adding additional front negative camber will work against the action of the WALK - one impact of fitting a WALK is that in a turn the outer front wheel wheel will gain additional negative camber, so adding yet more by installing a longer lower link (which is presumably what the TT's arm is) may be a bad thing.

the TT has a more fast road orientated negative front camber setting, so with the additional caster of the WALK giving more negative dynamic camber on turn in, the result should be good.

its only a small amount of camber change(and an oem spec change at that) so i doubt it would cause any issues. with reference to the poly bushes, i plan :thumbup:on replacing all of the bushes with the poly varient so its worthwhile me doing it now, rather than paying extra on labour charges at a later date

fitting the lower support arm is not about being lighter (thats just a bonus) its about the additional camber. fittng them whilt combined with the walk(additional caster, therefore additional dynamic camber), should give a huge difference.

surely if you can buy the exact same WALK for the Audi TT as for the vRS there is no difference

its nuts isnt it. i think he has something to do with a tuning comapny though. its way further than i would like to go, bit whenyou read about his past cars you realise he has a good idea what is needed, or worthwhile when tuning. although money is obviously not an issue there. but then goes way beyond so ignoring that its good reading

in the WALK thread link above they mentioned about the stress and splitting bushes, on the lower control arm. but it may well have been a one off. im only replacing mine as i am doing the full car with poly bushes, so no point in me paying twice to get the control arm taken off

  • 1 month later...

Hoping to do this myself too.

Cant the lower arm/wishbone not be left in place and only the rear bush console unbolted and then pulled off the wishbone peg. Then the WALK attached in its place to the wishbone and then bolted up to the chassis member ?

Followed by a wheel alignment.

All i know its an hours labour to fit the two, then re alignment after. mine gets fitted on friday

  • 4 weeks later...

Had my WALK fitted today by Midland VW - £70 inc wheel alignment. The car feels very balanced in corners (Neuspeed RARB fitted previously) and goes round on rails - very nice.
