Can't remove rear brake calipers

Featured Replies

I've got new discs to put on the car (51 plate vRS) and I have done the fronts, the rears are stuck.

The discs that were on the car are so badly worn that there is a big lip stopping the caliper coming away.

I can't use the wind back tool because the pads are still on.

I am stuck.

My father-in-law says that I have to grind the lip off the disc or smash the pads to get them off.

Is there an easier way?

Cheers.

screwdriver or chissel type thing between them to prise them open makin sure the top is off the fluit tank?

That worked for the fronts, the rears need to screw back in...

We ground the lip off, slipped the caliper over the edge of the disc and then sorted it.

Now I can't get the old beam bushes out to put the new ones in.

Might have to burn them out but the left one is really close to the fuel tank.

Ho hum.

*edit*

Sorted it.

Been a long day. Took mark sargeant's advice and drilled the rubber out of the bushing. They popped out a treat.
