bump its still goin on

I have put my guess in

Interesting video.

For the last 6 years I've take part in an economy run. Everyone fills up at the start, drives the pre set route and then refills at the finish to determine how much fuel has been used. The cars are also weighed on the way round in order to tell how efficient they are. I've always found that the best way of using less fuel is to have a big engine in a small car. This way the engine doesn't need to work very hard to move the vehicle.

If you click here you can see a list of results from this year's event in order of efficientcy. Note, that although my Octavia vrs didn't get an amazingly high mpg, it was still the 8th most efficient vehicle of the whole event due to still getting the mpg it did even though it weighed in at around 1500kg with driver and passenger in it.

So I reckon that Smart car could miles further on 1 litre of fuel if it had a much bigger engine.

The golf is less fuel economical than a Ferrari?

haydon im interested in this fuel efficiently thing, have you got more info?

Interesting looking event, my previous 1.9TDI would have been top of the league by some margin (75mpg possible with care, 65mpg easily done). By contrast my 2.0TDI struggles to get over 52mpg! Although that would still have made the top 5 in your list!

I've gone for about 9km for the Navara... Mate has one and it's good on diesel on a gentle run. Although with a 1.4 litre golf doing under 5 I'm doubting the integrity of the testing.

PS: Who the hell brings a Rolls Royce Silver Shadow to an economy run? Well, it didn't come rock bottom at least!

I put the Navara down at 5km

Ever heard the saying "there are two ways to get rich, don't spend a lot, or make a lot" or something like that.

Yeah, I was also stunned to see that on the list.

I guess the way the organisers compared fuel used to vehicle weight has obviously helped it's ranking, the same equation has obviously worked against the very light Westfield.

That car was entered in by a couple of journalists from Practical Performance Car magazine, which reminds me, I got a picture of my car in their write up of the event
