buying VRS - timing belt?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Been considering a VRS, looking on autotrader - plenty for sale, all with around 60,000 on the clock

Quick google revealed why, timing belt and waterpump needs replacing @ 60K? Is this an expensive job?

Price seems to vary a bit mate, the lowest price I've seen on here was £250 which I think is very good considering its not the easiest to do, but most pay between £300 - £350.

Its an expensive job even if you DIY, I did mine a few months ago using genuine vag parts which came to £212.

And for that you get - cam belt, tensioner/damper, idler pulley, water pump, G12 antifreeze and seven O/S engine mounting bolts.

No need to quote original post.

Recently paid £500 for a full service, timing belt, tensioners, metal pump, brake fluid change & rear pads. Sounds like a lot of money but there is a lot of work to be done. Dealers would charge you about £750 for the work. Car sounds exactly like it did before the service but I suppose that is a good thing. Buy one, it is an amazing drive!!!

hey i own a VRS .But in manual its specified to be at 80k.60k only for diesel engines.

I remember a thread on here saying its 40k or 4 years whichever first. Get one with it already done. There are plenty about.

P.S. Make sure the electrics are all functionning! Central locking can be a problem.

Skoda have updated the service interval. Sounds like your manual hasn't been updated
