Possible DMF Failure?

Featured Replies

Hello to all

I've had my Octavia 2.0 TD for just over 2 years and 35,000 miles. Recently there has been a noticable juddering coming through the car especially when coming off the throttle between 60 and 70 mph. The car feels like it's bouncing from the front end. At first I thought it was poor road surfaces but it's also happening on smooth roads! There's no noticable wheel wobble, so I don't think it is a wheel balance issue. At higher speeds the problem does not appear. The problem appears to be getting worse.

Is this a possible DMF issue? If it is, I've a driving holiday to Scotland planned for week after next, probably will do about 1500 miles. Am I advised to leave the Octavia at home, rather than risk it?

Thanks in advance

Glen

I had a similar issue at 60-70mph but can't say it was any worse on or off the throttle. By coincidence the mileage was 35,000!

It came suddenly and I put it down to rear wheel balance - maybe lost a balance weight. Rear tyres were the originals and fronts had done over 20,000 - all down to about 3mm tread with the rears quite heavily saw-toothed. I replaced all 4 tyres and the problem went away.

Check yoyur front tyres to see if they have worn badly, sometimes they can wear like a 50p piece and generate a shuddering at a certain speed.

DMF problems are normally more noticeable when under high load transmitting peak torque from the engine to transmission.
