I live in an area where I get virgin broadband and pay for it.

I also live in an area where we have huge water bills to cover the cost of keeping the coast clean. Only the people in this area pay for it, it isnt subsidised by the rest of the country. So why should I subsidise other peoples broadband when no-one subsidises my water?

Because you chose to live near the coast. If you don't like the water bills, move inland

My point exactly, if you want to get good broadband move to an area where it's available, i dont see why i should help pay for it.

The point here is that the government are trying to get a minimum of 2Mbit connections. I have to make do with a circa 800kbit connection due to BT being crap. How ever when I move house I will be moving into a cabled area.

I dont have too much of an issue. It's 50p/year IIRC.

The real question is, once WE have paid through the nose for the infrastructure, will WE still have to pay through the nose for BT line rental and the ISP???? OR wil it be free to all

I'd gladly pay £6/year for 2mbit!

I get 800kbps at home and it's dire!

Fair enough but it is a tax for no real reason. If your speed is that bad I'd take it up with your ISP or change to another.

I get 6500 - 7000kbps no bother.

800kbps? :( Even in the test socket?

Look on the bright side, still better than Wales, eh?

No test socket! I don't have a normal master socket for some reason?

Nope, Dad's got a 3mbps connection!

It's the same speed for the whole area, neighbours all get 600-800kbps :(

It sounds like it's either contention or distance from exchange.

From SamKnows:

Availability checks

- ADSL available at ~0.5Mbps

- ADSL2+ available at ~1Mbps

That's the problem :(

Edit: My exchange: http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange/LCAOR

I get 50-60 all day long lol.
