2.0TDI or 1.9TDI Elegance - Which one?

Featured Replies

HELP!!!

Need a family car which the wife will drive most of the time so my head says get the 1.9TDI.

However, my heart says I want more power and should get the 2.0TDI.

Price difference is about £1400 which just adds more to the finance.

Thoughts and opinions appreciated :D

The 1.9 doesn't have a dpf. i reckoned the price difference was better spent on a year's diesel

1.9. Make a saving. It's still fast enough. Or, better still, what I'd do is wait for the 1.6CR. That must be very nearly ready to order now and has the same performance as the 1.9 with significantly better economy and refinement.

i would go for the well developed 1.9 TBH. :)

go for the 1.9 and if it's not enough power later then a mild remap will solve that :D

Do you need the leaky head issues of the 2.0?

Thanks for the reponse peeps

Do you need the leaky head issues of the 2.0?

Even though I'll buy new we intend to keep the car for many years, so a trouble free life is the preference.

Any known issues with the i.9?

Like that idea :D - what are my options?

Will this depreciate a 1.9 quickly if the 1.6 is going to replace the 1.9? i.e. should I even by now?

Turbo sticking on some varients, EGR blocking up. The leaky head was an issue on the very early 2.0 engines and so most issues betwwen the two are common

When the 1.9 is replaced with the 1.6CR (which you can now order according to a dealer on here) then the 1.9 which it replaces will drop in value accordingly.

Smaller lighter engine giving the same power, lower ved band, probably lower insurance, lower CO2 and better MPG is going to hit the value of a 1.9.

So if you're going to buy it and run it until it dies I'd say a 1.9 would be good if you can get a good amount of money off it. If you can't get enough money off then get the 1.6CR TDI as I think it should be a very good engine.

AFAIK only the 8v 2.0tdi in the Scout has the DPF, I think the rest of the range has the 16v 2.0tdi which has not got the dreaded DPF. My 2006 Elegance has not got one. My 2.0tdi has had a turbo replaced at 130,000kms and since then hasn't missed a beat (240,000kms).

I have found this works very well (153 bhp)

JKM Performance .... Superchips Bluefin - Skoda

What he said.

The 1.6 will be a much better option than the old 1.9 and will be the one to go for if you fancy an economical car.

The 2.0 is good fun to drive though so I wouldn't dismiss it outright.
