Picked up the Octavia, few problems.

Featured Replies

So tonight I picked up my 99' Octavia GLX, phenominal cars

I just have a few queries and problems :o

1) The car tracks straight if you let go of the steering wheel it goes it a straight line allowing of course for the camber of the road, however when the steering wheel is straight i.e the position it automatically defaults to the badge isn't straight nor is the actual wheel itself, any ideas the tracking isn't out as I've said possible fitment of a VRS/Elegance Leather Wheel so it is just it has been off and not replaced properly?

2) I think my car has been modified  Substancially, I had a 90PS Focus (not bad) a 2.2 DCi Primera (nippish) and a 2.0 Petrol 406 (Which could shift) but I overtook my Dad's 540i when I put my foot down he clawed the lead back but this is remarkable for a car that's done 147,000 miles and is only supposed to be 90ps ;)

3) My interior seems a bit well crap, there is a hole drilled to the right handside of the radio and the glovebox is marked/scratched does anyone know anyway of replacing these parts as they are bound to annoy me. Also the floor centre console has a rather crap plastic handbrake and I'd like a leather VRS one and no CUPHOLDERS in sight which annoyed me also I'd like an armrest :) Suggestions?

4) I have four keys, 2 sets of 2 as they drivers lock was vandalised but instead of the expense and getting the insurance involved the gentleman replaced only the drivers barrel hence two keys, although the central locking works fine. My question here is, is it worth the central locking kits off rclick? I would want the roll up windows function to work and how risk is it getting the transponder out of the keys? Also a interesting feature or fault. When I got in the car and started it a yellow light with a key came on and the owner said you've been too long unlocking the car, take it out and wait 10 secs  surely this can't be right you should get in when you want and start the damn thing!

5) The inspection warning is on, looks like it hasn't had a service in a while  So the oil will be getting changed as a matter of urgency, VAGCOM to reset this? Can I change the service interval too? Fuel Filter and Air Filter will be done quickly too.

1 - mine was like that after the tracking was done - alignment was fine but both wheels were offset. I had it re-done and it was fine.

4 - Mk4 Golf armrests can be fitted :)

5 - You can reset it using the dash buttons - the manual tells you how if you have it, otherwise seacrh in this section it has definitely been covered.

(2) - Are you sure the car's 90bhp standard? One of my mates has a GLX TDi and it's a 110, same spec as my Elegance except for wheels, tyres and interior colour. Having said which I've driven an hire Ambiante which was a 90, and it felt quicker than the Xantia TD90 I had at the time.

I was under the impressions that on the pre-facelift cars the GLX was 90bhp , same as the ambiente that replaced it.

The SLX and Elegance were the ones that had the 110bhp engine.

If my car had a tuning box on it, like I think it has being a 90ps the sticker it the boot says so  where would it be?

I know they connect into the VAG diagnostics port under the bonnet and some into the MAF and some even have seperate power but can anyone give me an indication as to which part of the engine the connector would be, picture might be useful, Thanks.
