Flat spot around 2500 rpm 1.9tdi

Featured Replies

I'm very pleased with my new (to me) 1.9tdi 4x4 estate. 60k miles. Only slight worry is a stutter / flat spot around 2500rpm. Its OK cruising at that speed, it just appears when you are getting up to speed.

Inspired by another thread, I changed the air filter which seems to have been worthwhile, although the stutter is still there.

Is there anything obvious I should be looking for (or saving-up for??)

Thanks in advance.

You might want to look at changing the MAF sensor which is about £65 IIRC. They can get a little bit weak around the 60-80k mark.

It's worth putting a clean air filter in the car before you do this as the cost of the filter isn't much and the 40/60k mile interval is way too long IMHO.

You could always try lobbing a bottle of diesel injector cleaner in the tank as well - I find that has helped our Fabia TDI on occasions...

I cant say i've noticed this on my 1.9tdi, once i get around to 2000-2200rpm in 2nd and 3rd gears it tends to dump all the torque in one lump. Right around to about 3750rpm without and issues. Im at 131k on mine too.

Get a re-map. And all your hiccups and hesitiations will be a thing of the past...

Hi, I'm new to the forum - my new Octavia is currently on order - but, I have recently had the same issue with my Golf GTi and have had the MAF changed (along with the air filter) and this did not fix the problem - it is suspected (by my independant garage) that it is a sign that the fuel pump is on it's way...:(

What year is your 1.9Tdi? Is it around 2006?

I had this problem early on with my 2006 model. It was particularly noticeable under light or moderate acceleration up hill, when the engine was good and hot. It is a known problem and was cured by the dealer uploading an update to the ECU.

1st thing to do is to get the dealer to check if this update has been done

Hi - Yes it is a 2006. Thanks for this and all other suggestions so far.

Hi - Yes it is a 2006. .

That's it then - known problem with the 2006 - get the update done and your car will be transformed - provided (as I discovered) you change the air filter regularly :)

My dealer (DM Keith, Bradford) knew exactly what I was talking about when I reported the fault to them a year ago and did the update as part of the service.

I wasn't charged cos the car was under warranty - not sure of the policy on these updates once out of warranty though
