Parking sensors, radio and radio remote problems

Featured Replies

I have a set of problems with factory parking sensors and radio remote control. :thumbdwn:

1) When Roomy is left in the sun with the rear bumper bathing in the sunlight the parking sensors won't work. I put in reverse, I hear a loud "BEEEP", and the sensors aren't working. If the car is left in the shade for couple of minutes and left to cool down the sensors are working again. If heated, "BEEEP", no go. Cooled - everything is fine.

2 and 3) I have DANCE radio and remote control on the steering wheel. Some radio stations (stored in the radio's memory) are acting funny. They won't start playing the first time and I have to push their select button twice. Also, the remote is acting funny. I can't turn to some stations. When I turn the select wheel on the remote, radio tries to select a station but fails, and turns back to the previously tuned station, or skips a station and plays the one after. I have a nasty feeling that the radio's electronics has deteriorated and started to fail: these problems won't go away, they'll only get worse.

I had the first problem, with parking sensors, for over a year but now it's getting really bad. Today the sensors failed on me a dozen times. The second problem, with factory radio, is far more recent. Therefore I don't see any correlation between the two. They seem to be two separate problems.

Any idea what's going on? Anybody?

sorry - my roomy is parked on the drive in full sun and I've experienced no problems at all. I'm afraid it sounds like a dealer job

I believe either sensors are going haywire, or electrical contacts (e.g. solder) are somehow affected by the heat. I don't see any other possible source or reason for this problem. :(

Problems solved! :goodvibe:

Been in a local Skoda shop today, left the back end of the car baking in the sun, the guys said they never had fault like this, but were willing to look into it and sure enough - one rear parking sensor was the cause of all problems.

Replacement is arriving tomorrow and it will take approx. 2 hours to remove the rear bumper, fit the new sensor, check the system and put everything back again.

2 years guarantee on all parts will cover the costs.

I had to check weather forecast every day to be sure that it will be hot and sunny when I go to the garage. :) Six months ago (in winter) the sensors were mostly working so at another (less eager) Skoda shop they weren't willing to thoroughly trace the problem.

Also, DANCE radio seems to have some kind of memory fading effect. If I memorize stations again, assign the same buttons to the same frequencies, they will work all right. So this was workaround and not a fix, but at least the radio is working as it should.
