Low frequency resonance/vibration

Low frequency vibration

Octavia 2 LHD 2006

I get a noisy low frequency vibration/resonance at just over 1000 rpm (sometimes up to 1300) in 1st and 2nd gears. This appears most often in traffic jams when crawling and particularly if the engine is being required to work a little against an incline. It is difficult to reproduce when stationary though sometimes it can be produced by slipping the clutch against the handbrake. I have been unable to locate the source so far. It sounds a bit like a panel resonance. Any ideas please?

It's the engine cover / airbox.

Thank you.:)

I will try some foam padding against the bonnet to see if it cures the noise.

I ommited to mention the diesel engine 1.9 ltr.

I've had this noise too and its intermittent and very iritating once you know its there! moaned several times to the stealers and they said they couldnt hear or replicate it!!!

I quite like it. It's a gruff growl like a caged beast. :)

Now when I had a tiny little click-click noise somewhere in my door that drove me totally mad.

Thanks again.

The noise was coming from both the engine cover and the airbox in front of the air filter. It has been temporarily fixed with a foam pad pressing against the underside of the bonnet and 2 foam pads between the radiator top and the air box. The outlet of the airbox also needed a strip of thin rubber because the plastic clips don’t clamp firmly enough.

And NO it was not a gruff growl - that I can accept!

Glad you got it fixed. It's a really common issue.
