hi. my fabia pd100 has done about 102500miles now. i do wait for the glow plug lights to go out before starting but it makes this really unhealthy screeching sound. it always starts first time but that noise is quite embarrassing. im thinking of changing the starter motor soon but how often do glow plugs need changing. any advice will be appreciated. thanks.

Sounds pretty irrefutable on the starter motor, but you shouldn't be seeing the glowplug light for more than a moment in this weather anyway, as they shouldn't need to do anything. It might be worth looking to see if any faults with the coolant temp sensor have been recorded, however. My glowplug took ages to go out until I put a new CTS in...
