What's The Best Remap For An Octavia VRs MK2 TFSI?

Featured Replies

I have an octy mk2 VRS and i've just had a Bluefin re-map done, i had exactly the same dilema and ended up going for the bluefin because its around 150 -170 cheaper than a Revo, Superchips have been around for years and are well known but the main one for me was the bluefin handset and the ability to install/remove the re-map myself whenever i want without the need to take my car to the re-map dealer everytime, also if you have your car in for a service and they install an update on your ECU you remove the re-map before it goes in then re-install when you get it back and the bluefin recognises their has been an update and re-downloads the map for you to send to Superchips and they then send you a new map for no charge. The handset can also be used to immobilise your car, which is an ideal safety feature for if you go on holiday. Oh and by the way it makes the car pull like a train and it has a noticable difference in speed and accelleration

a point to know on bluefin nd further upgrades, they have now fallen in line with the likes of revo and an upgrade to stage 2 or the stage2+ fuel pump specific map are now an additional £50. still worthwhile i think

i thought bluefin was great but i had a drag with a stage 2 revo GTI and he showed me a clean set of tail pipes. was slightly annoyed, plus he has alot more torque and it was a noticable amount. especialy when using higher gears.

Im just about to go to stage 2+ bluefin once i fit my pump internals this weekend, but i dont doubt that i will be changing to a much more powerful remap in the future, I do however take part in a lot of track work though.

Has anybody with just a stage 1 remap had any clutch issues? The reason I ask is that Revo quote 285lb/ft of torque and most of the rolling road results back this up. Their results seem to give the most torque also confirmed by the post above.

What is the standard clutch rated at ?

As Damo said, I've a Bluefin on mine & been very happy with it. Superchips were very helpful when I called them and asked what i needed considering my other modifications.

Superchips are a partner with Volkswagen Racing, so they do understand a thing or two, just like Revo. I did loads of research and was torn between Revo & Bluefin & in the end went for the Bluefin, as it was on offer at the time, there was the ability to "upgrade" later and the remap seemed a little less "agressive". This was important to me as I use my vRS as a works car and as such I didn't want to sacrifice reliability & fuel consumption. There is an impact on economy ("you don't get something for nowt lad!"), but not much! I'm happy so far

I think the choice of remap depends on what your future plans for the car are & where you live.

Bluefin Stage1 get great reports down here in Australia & is great bang-for-buck (except I can self import from JKM for about AUD700 and the local distributor charges AUD900). If you just want a basic, safe remap then they are the way to go.

The Bluefin Stage 2, etc remaps have a bad name as they are never quite "right" and the distance/time-zone issues mean that many people give up & go to a local tuner. I don't think this means Bluefin is a bad product, it's just once you introduce variables such as non-OEM exhaust systems & non-OEM intakes, it makes it much harder to get the tune right for that particular car.

GIAC, Revo, Unitronic & APR all have a presence down here as well.

APR are expensive - ~$1500-$1800. Revo ~$1150. GIAC ~$900. Unitronic ~$880.

Superchips won't make money out of you having a new exhaust so there's no reason to think they're trying to sell you something you don't need :) I have a Milltek full system (including downpipe and sports cat) and the difference in the car before and after (with no change to the ECU map) was quite noticable

I have had a Shark Performance re map done by Ben the other week and I am impressed. I am no expert in fact this is the first car I have ever had mapped but its very smooth and progressive through the rev range. Lots of power on tap.

Decent price also

Went with P Torque for my VRS 2.0 TSFI stage 1 because I live nearby (they are near Wolverhampton) PLUS I got it for £245 as part of a group buy. I have no technical expertise here and no other re-map to compare to, but I can say I am very impressed with the results (Dyno showing 247BHP and 273 lb/ft, and the delivery is very smooth and progressive). The guy seemed thorough, knowledgeable and customer friendly. At that price, I couldn't see how a Revo remap would be £300 quid better, even if Revo are the market leader.

As one of you said, it would be good if someone could do an objective test with all the main players. I doubt the Consumer Association and Which? magazine would run with that suggestion; but has anyone got Clarkson's phone number?

I'm new to the forum and was interested if anyone could recommend which remap is best for my MK2 Octy VRs petrol?

I've had quotes from the usual......Jabba, Revo, Angel Tuning, AMD technik, Celtic Tuning etc.......But which one should I go for??

Any advice?

Cheers

Try Performance Torque, I have had 3 maps from them with full diagnostics checks, before and after RR and at an exceptional price. You get a full road test post map and if you are not happy, you don't pay. Will, the owner has a great knowledge of the entire VAG range and I have been really happy with the 3 cars I had mapped with them.

In a recent GB people where paying around £250 as well, good price for highly rated map
