Black Smoke

Featured Replies

Looking For a bit of advice

Just bought a '04 Fabia vRS

Has done 36000 miles

last owner had for 3 years and did around 3000 miles a year, still serviced it every year at skoda dealer

The problem is there is alot of black smoke coming out the exhaust

so i have taken it for a good motorway run about 100 miles

and the next day the EPC fault light came on stayed on for a day

then went off.

Now 2 days later it is back on again

and still alot of black smoke but seems to run ok not in safe mode

Any Advice?

Boost leak ?

EPC? Thought that only applied to petrol engined cars!

Do you mean CEL light?

VCDS holds the answers you need, Or at least point you in the right direction!

No it is EPC fault light (looks like an engine)

No thats the CEL, EPC says EPC, That aside you need the car scanned, If you can get over to my side of the Forth i'll hook it up!

Where are you mike you work for a garage?

My advice would be to take it for a spirited drive.. warm it up, then thrash it for 20 minutes or so.. the light will soon go away :D *

* please note I am not a mechanic and this may well cause damage to your engine :D

Scott, PM me and we'll sort something out!

I will see how i get on with him if this does not work I will gve you a shout

I've started getting a lot of Black Smoke in my ibiza recently too, I'm currently thinking its the MAF sensor but it would be good to find out what yours is too!

Dont forget ambient temperatures have recently risen, which reduces the effectiveness of the SMIC, hot intake = less dense air = more overfuelling = smoke :)

Its more like smoke screen out the back! lol Can't see anything when you give it some throttle, is that likely to be heat related or would it not effect it that much?

This would be normal when accelerating hard in hot weather http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/tt143/Manorpics/IMG_1751.jpg

As the car has been underused for 3 years it would most likely soot build up in the manifold or cylinder head, do Yengolds idea and if it does not improve after a few good thrashes and a few days let us know.

well alot has happened over the last week

the garage said the fault showing up on the diagnostics check was the

mass air flow sensor so i bought a new (exchange) bosch one £65 from europart

fitted it, took it back to garage to reset fault light

2 Days later.... Light back on and now not running well !!!
