Smelly AC!

Featured Replies

After getting a new comp and Climatronic unit fitted the other month, when using AC for the first few minutes there's an odd smell, then it goes away.

Hard to describe what it smells like really, but I'd like to get rid of it! Tried a can of Comma AirCon cleaner, which releases the can contents into the car, while the system's on and in re-circ mode. Can't say it's made much a difference though.

Any recommendations on what else to try?

Thanks,

Stece

Interesting Mike, thanks. It was in for service last month (3rd annual on fixed) - just wondering if they'd have replaced the pollen filter as part of that.

The smell is only evident when the AC is in operation - when I turn to 'ECON' there's no smell. That's what made me think it was perhaps a build-up in the AC pipework, rather than anything else.

Put a new pollen filter (ideally with carbon) in and make sure all the drains in the engine bay area are clear. (They are behind the liners in the wheel arches).

i used to comma cans on my last car and stuck them in the front footwell spraying up into the area under the glove commpartment, a new pollen filter will help loads.
