VRS leather wearing

Featured Replies

I've noticed that the leather on the outer edge of the drivers door side bolster is starting to wear through the black 'skin'.

Anyone else got this? Is it normal, to be expected or is it a warranty claim?

The car has done just under 20k in 2 years. I'll take a pic if I can.

It's not really bad right now but likely to get worse I suppose. It's probably getting rubbed when getting in or out of the car.

My stitching is showing signs of fraying. Same mileage as yours 18 months old. Will keep an eye on it but would imagine it's best to get it checked within the first 2 years as I think the small print mentions something about trim being excluded after 2 years. Might be wrong on that though.

Best advice is try not to slide over it as your getting in & out of the car and make sure you regularly use a leather cream to "moisturise" the leather & keep it in better condition. Wear happens on all leather seats just like this, only cure I know of is to lessen the impact of you getting in & out the car!

Are the part leather seats real leather? The middle seat on the rear bench looks a bit plastic to me!

Bits of it are.

I'm talking about the edges of the seat bolster on the seat back nearest the drivers door.

How often do you treat the leather?

Mines fine but its only covered 13k in its two year life so far. However it does get a clean and treatment about every four to five months.

What would seem to be the best/most popular/easiest-to-apply leather treatment for the vRS seats?

The wearing of the seat bolsters is something I was concerned about as my Clio 182 was showing the same signs, although I did put that down to French build quality.

Poorboy's Leather Stuff gets my vote. Tried and tested by me on quite a few different cars with different leather and it always does the job. Is a cleaner and conditioner/feeder in one, so I'd suggest a first stage 'clean', being quite vigorous with it and a microfibre pad. You'll be surprised at the amount of dirt lifted out. Then that evening, gently work in another application and leave it on the leather overnight. Then wipe down the leather in the morning, to clear off any residue.

After inheriting the car I did do a bit of work on them with this product and my leather only shows some crease lines which are to be expected, and no other issues.

I've used the meguiars gold class leather cleaner every 6 months or so.

Had a word with the dealer over the phone. They said that Skoda UK will only repair under warranty if it's a manufacturing defect and not wear and tear. Also that the interior was covered by the warranty for the full 3yr or 60000 miles.

In fairness I doubt I'd say it was a manufacturing fault, it looks worn. Just seems a bit sh|tty for mileage. I've been in a 20yr old jag and it's leather was fine if stretched.

poor quality part if you ask me.
