superb tiptronic gearlever

Featured Replies

has anyone had an issue with a 'sticky' auto gearlever button. it is a bit 'plasticcy' - no doubt something to do with the fact that it is plastic ...! and mine has begun to stick once in a while. just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and whether it is an easy fix/replacement

cheers

Mines broken, it is flimsy and they won't just sell you a cap, iirc it's £180 for a whole new stick, and also I believe it's a fit once jobby where if you engage it to test it, it's finished if you didn't put it into the gearbox 1st, that's s/h info btw so if it's wrong I'm only passing on what I've heard.

a second question possibly linked - let me know. car just back from service - all good - however engaging gear from park is trickier than it has been before. the gearstick is a bit of a wrestle .... any ideas or should i be concerned?

It's probably one of two things, either the button isn't engaging fully and this is preventing a smooth change, or, the old auto parking mistake where ppl slam it into park before pulling the handbrake, always put the handbrake on 1st and take up any roll on the car before putting it in P, or it can move the box about just enough to misalign the selector. hth.

I have just started to have trouble with my Tip gear lever - the silver detent knob has come adrift and is wobbling around. I am worried that the whole lot will ping out and won't be able to engage 'park' to release key (or other way round) The price of a new lever looks scary - any suggestions? (of course the car is just 6 months out of warranty!)

Mines been like it for well over a year now, the cap I tried to glue back together but it just breaks again as you refit it, iirc my mate replaced his one and it was £180 for a whole new lever, and should you buy one he mentioned it only fits once so do not play with it before you fit it, personally I think he might have just scared himself as mine looks like it's been out before, but that's not to say they didn't fit a new one and use the old cover. hth.

Update on this, I can't find any info on how 2 replace it yet, but I was quoted £52 by one dealer, and £58 by another for the lever recently, on VW's which is a different stick, I've found info that says you slide the chrome down at the bottom, impossible imo as it's a perfect fit to the lower bit that resides in the chrome surround, and then pull the button off and release a clip, I don';t think this is the way for the Skoda tip though, anyone can add I'm all ears.

I eventually had mine replaced by VAS Motion, Guidford. It is an Audi part (at Audi prices) They are readily available in a variety of flavours depending on car trim. They are a plug in item - and you only get 1 chance as you have to destroy the internals to get it back out.

Cost was a gut wrenching £200, most of which was the cost of the new lever

I believe you are correct, a mate did one some time ago and he said he had to take it back because he fiddled with it and it assumed the locked position thinking it was on the stick already, I've seen some on eBay that are supposed to fit ok, more loike a Passat one with only one button, these vary between £5 and £12 each in carbon effect, but I'm uncertain if they would actually be suitable tbh.
