Octavia Spark Plugs! How to remove them!

Featured Replies

Hi all

I have an Octavia 52 plate 2.0L 16v and was wondering do you need a special tool to remove the spark plugs! I would rather not go to a dealer as god knows how much they would charge for re-placing them! They probably wouldn't do just the plugs anyway would they ?

I am out of work at the mo so any 'cheap' way around this problem would be very appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

Kind regards

Paul

Really? Other than a spark plug socket??

This topic has been covered many times before so do a search and see what you come up with.

The first thing to do is get hold of is a 3/8ths of an inch drive wobble bar, extension bar and plug socket, dont try to use 1/2" drive sockets as you might find it impossible to get anywhere near the plugs.

Be extremely careful when pulling off the plug leads as this is known to cause damage to the leads, you could end up buying a new set. A pair of long nosed pliers with a 45 degree angle tip helps here.

There is no need to dismantle any of the associated hardware, just having the right tools makes the job very easy.

I had my plugs changed by a kerbside tuner who knew what he was doing and he completed the job in under a quarter of an hour.

it is a special tool

Hi Guys

Just one thing that I didn't realise when I posted this thread is that there is a huge manifoldy type thing over the engine head! Like this

Will this have to be removed first or not ? Here are a view from the left and the right of the silver thing!

Left view.

And the right view.

Any help would be very gratefully appreciated.

The normal definition of a "special tool" in automotive terms is one that is only of use on a specific make, model or engine. A plug box is not a special tool.

That's not a 2.0 16v engine, it's the old 8v same as my wifes car. The spark plugs are a PITA to get to, but they are angled such that you can get to the inner two without removing the inlet manifold. A decent socket set with wobble extensions is a godsend for this job.

That's not a 2.0 16v engine, quote]

Hi

Yes your'e right it is only an 8v engine I have just rang Skoda Auto and they have confirmed it for me. It just goes to show how you cannot trust those people in Carcraft!! The salesman told me the engine was the same as in the Golf GTI!!!!! 2.0L 16V Lying B......!!!

Thanks for your reply anyway my friend and upsetting me :weeping: 3 years I've had this car and always thought it was a 16 valver!

Kind regrads

Paul
