80/90% extra H7 bulbs

Featured Replies

I'd go to a different MOT test centre then :P

As I've always said - you're call.

The department of Transport have said that aftermarket HID's should to have:

Suitable reflectors and lenses

Automatic level adjustment

Washer System

If people want to just carry on and install then fine.

But if people suddenly see they can't get an MOT on their car any more

Edit to what the DoT actually said inline.

The thing is that the word should makes it very difficult to enforce, so it's just down to the individual.

I've found the D.O.T. advice page about after-market HIDs from an earlier thread.

Aftermarket HID (Xenon) headlamps - DOT

Sums it up nicely. No washers or levelling = illegal.

This isn't a HID thread, so if you want to argue the toss over the word should, then there are many other threads already covering it.

The point in this thread was to find out if very very short life on the 80/90% bulbs was common.

Thanks:thumbup:

I've not picked up my vRS yet, but I've taken the H7 HID kit off my A-Class.

Are Skoda headlights wired through relays? Or are relays needed for fitting higher wattage bulbs?
