Casual Skoda Driver!

Featured Replies

Okay, I'll be honest, I rarely drive a Skoda but, having worked in or around the motor trade and rallysport game since 1980 admire their continued efforts to provide motoring to the masses.

An ex-mechanic now working as a school teacher I joined this forum to seek advice about my girlfriend's Fabia which has a couple of issues at the moment (please see my other threads if you can help).

Always been a Ford man myself but, as my partner is in remission from cancer we needed a cheap runabout that she could park at the hospital without fear of damage and we bought a Fabia Classic 1.4 MPI in that really bright green (what do they call that colour?) - hopefully we can cure the problems, if not the "block" beckons.

Forgot to ask - anyone got an owners handbook for this car? We have no documents other than the logbook and MOT.

welcome to briskoda

Blooming 'eck - that was quick. Thanks for that - it's a starting point - I'm off to a breakers this weekend so I'll see if I can get on "in the flesh".:D

You're a friendly bunch - glad I dropped by.

Hey just noticed... you're in Leeds... that's where the friendliness ends! ;)

Hmm.. LS16? Ok, so at least you're the Bradford side of Leeds, that's some redemption... :D

That's ok all hatred gratefully received

I support Burnley BTW (my Grandad was involved with their Youth Traing Programme in the 60s and 70s so I got to kick a ball with Stan Morteson, Stan Matthews et al! Happy Days) not LUFC and I was at Valley Parade on the day of the fire (in THAT stand - one of the luckier ones) - oh yes I teach in Pudsey too - can't be in Leeds and much nearer to Bradford than that

Welcome :)

Hello and welcome. Mechanic ----> Teacher? Bit of a change.

I've replied to your post about the Fabia, hope it helps.

them soddin' temporary lights @ Horsforth crossroads... as a yokel I demand you go move 'em or at least stand by them so you can set 'em to green in my favour on my twice daily commute through there!

Them cones are sodding everywhere and it's the second time in as many months that Fink Hill's been dug up. Glad it's not only me getting delayed - at 7:10 am there's still a queue. Look out for a pale blue metallic 54 plate Focus with damage to BOTH front doors - thats me and both dents happened when the car was stationary - imagine how bad things could be if I'd been driving.

Hello! :wave23d:

Hello and welcome. Mechanic ----> Teacher? Bit of a change.

It was inevitable that I'd work with cars at some stage with my paternal Granfather being the UKs largest independent Lada dealer as well as a Ford franchisee although he'd retired by the time I started work. I suppose it's always good to have the skills to fix stuff and I've saved a few bob over the years. I still rally as a hobby to keep my hand in - in fact since I left the trade i've got my hobby back! I had worked into management but after the 3rd redundancy in a year thought stuff this, got divorced, sold the car and hung out at uni for a couple of years - somehow managed to qualify and I've never looked back.

Guess it's unusual but I'm in the best job I've EVER had. I was told "find a job you like and you'll never work another day again" so true - and the holidays are brill :D.

Thanks for the reply in the other thread - have PMd a local VAG-COM member - hopefully we'll get somewhere. There's enough of a margin between cost and value to throw a few quid at sorting it out now the head gasket has been done.
