1.4 TSI and towing a caravan

Featured Replies

I am awaiting delivery of a new Octavia 1.4 TSI Elegance Hatchback. Given the good torque range of 200Nm at 1500 to 4000 rpm and 122 bhp would this car be suitable for towing a small caravan or is this a non starter? Any thoughts.

2.0tdi has 320Nm torque so better for towing.

Don't see why not as long as you keep the weight down.

I'm sure one of the caravan mags tested a Golf with that engine and found it fine. Ultimately a diesel is a better towcar, but towing may only be a small part of your yearly mileage so as ever life is a compromise.

IMO Octavia 1.4tsi will be an excellent car for towing a small to medium caravan. The wide rev range band of high torque is available in a no lag, no fuss way that would shame a lot of diesels.
