after market alloy wheels for fabia 1.2 70bhp hatchback

Featured Replies

Standard 15" (on 195x55x15 tyres) look too small so thinking of 16" (on 206x45x16 tyres) or 17" (205x40x17 tyres) but since the cost of tyres for 16" is relatively expensive I might go for 17".

My question is how will lower profile and slightly wider tyres affect the car?

(Will it be a noticable mucher harder ride? Will low profile tyres = harder ride = quicker wear n tear on bushes?)

Also do low profile tyres wear out quicker? (I can't see why but some people with low profile tyres say they do)

Even 16" wheels and 206 tyres are torture for 1.2 engine IMO.

My previous car was Mk1 1.2 Fabia, the original tyres were 165/70/14.

Torture???

We have 16" wheels on our 1.2 Sport (Standard) and the ride is superb

I've also wanted to change the standart ones with 16", but the technician in Skoda said lot of negative things like weight of the big rims, acceleration issue, resistance of wide wheels, decreasing brake performance, increasing fuel consume etc. :)

The 1.2 70bhp in sport trim comes with 205 wide tyres as standard so shouldn't be a problem with power but 205x45x16 tyres are actually slightly smaller in diameter and 205x40x17 are about 0.02 inches wider in diameter than 205x45x16. The 195x55x15 is the largest in diameter.

According to the brochure the fuel consumption is the same with the 205x45x16 tyres.

I'm thinking of light weight alloys so weight shouldn't be an issue.

Has anyone fitted lower profile/larger rims?

Mine was also delivered with 205/45/16 but have fitted 205/40/17 and it drives just as well as before.

I think the standard 16" wheels look better but those look much better than standard 15"

How has it affected ride comfort? Do you notice much difference?

It´s hard to tell how much the wheels has affected the ride by themself because I had KONI adjustable shocks fitted at the same time but the steering is much sharper and direct.

i've had a look a prices of 17" tyres and they so expensive if you want branded ones.

I think I might look for some large looking 15". what offset is 15x7, 15x6.5 and 15x6?
