Rear Brake Squeal

Featured Replies

Our Furby had a slight vibration noise from the rear brake discs at very low speed from new. The dealer has checked them and found nothing wrong. The car is now 4 months old and has covered 2.5K and the vibration has become a loud (it makes people turn) noise, akin to a cow mooing, when reversing - again at low speed - Any ideas fellow Briskodans?

It's not the obvious such a rust on the disc surface as the car is in daily use.

Yeah I have a similar noise, just started (7500 miles) for the first 5 miles or so after starting but it is fairly quiet, can only hear it up to about 20mph. I think it is coming from the handbrake somehow cause it doesnt do it if I park in gear without the handbrake.

Service is coming up so I will get it checked then.

It's a common problem. Do a search to find it...

It generally only happens to mine after I've washed the car, so could be oxidised disc-related...

new aftermarket pads sorted mine out.

Tom.

Where did you get the pads Tom?

i got my pads from a local motor factors. i think they are the same as the golf 130.

you will need a disc cylinder winding tool though if your going to attempt it yourself. Tom.

Thats what I first suspected, but it happens even after a run.

This evening I drove it harder than normal and it was quite when I reversed into the drive - unlike earlier in the day when most of the people in a car park looked round at me - This evning the disc were hot - could it be that I'm being too gentle?
