Water Leak into Driver Footwell

Recommended Posts

Was vacuuming out my vRS Ltd Ed this weekend, and found the driver's footwell carpet to be soaking wet and puddling when it was pressed. Rear driver's side footwell damp too.

Have seen a lot of threads on water leaks into front/rear passenger side, but not drivers side.

Car is in the dealer at the moment being looked at.

Any ideas?

Hi Coopergreg, you may be fortunate that it may not be a fault with the car. I have had this happen in my present car, a VW Passat, and my previous car, an Audi 80. Both times it was caused by exceptionally heavy rain (or my overenthusiastic rinsing when washing it) when parked on a slope. having said that it only affected the front driver and passenger footwells, not the back.

Thanks for the info!

We have had some heavy rain recently, but I've not washed it with a pressure washer etc or had it parked on a slope. I think the rear driver side footwell is just it soaking through from the front.

I'll see what the dealer says about seals. A modern car shouldn't leak like this so hopefully it turns out to be something simple!

If it helps, we have just had the same problem with my wife's car. Not a Skoda, but an Audi A4 cabriolet, so same group.

Basically, whenever it rained heavily we were finding the passenger side footwell full of water, to the point that, if the car had been standing for a couple of days in heavy rain, there would actually be puddles in the footwell, even without pressing it.

Audi initially thought the pollen filter was passing water, so changed that unit and the seals, but the problem persisted.

It was eventually tracked down to a broken passenger door seal, which was replaced. Thankfully it's a company car, so they picked up the tab, which was nearly £300! Yours in under warranty though, so if that's the problem then at least it'll be gratis for repair!

I believe door seals are a fairly common problem with the Octy, although I've had no such trouble with mine.

Thanks.

The dealer has just updated me - they've found a gap in the sealant under the scuttle panel. Apparently as the sealant is applied by robots now, if there's an air-lock in the sealant system, small gaps can be left and the water gets in through the seam. They are going to repair it and do "extensive water trials" (!!) before I get it back Tues/Weds next week.

HOPEFULLY that'll sort it!

I hope that sorts it for you Coopergreg. It's okay using robots if you can rely on what they're doing and presumably there should be quality checks if they know this can happen.

My octavia ltd ed has started to leak water on the drivers side, only noticed it as it had frozen under the mat. I had a smell appear and the windows steamed up every winter but I just thought it was just one of those things. This year was the worst with the instrument panel steaming up. The car has been in the garage for 2 days and they have found the problem under the wing, so the vehicle has been moved to the body shop to have the wing removed and the problem area sealed, I persume it must be in the same place as your problem. Did it resolve the issue once you got the car back????. I'm going to ask them to change the carpets and the deadner.
