Velcro for showplates...

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just a quick queries, I'm after some Velcro like round circles to hold the showplates on while I show the car at car shows, at Gaydon I used blue tack which seemed to work for one plate but not the other, I'm quite againest drilling holes in my new plates as the holes might change when I say purchase a new car and already the normal skoda number plate surround has about 4 or 5 diffrent holes underneath (maybe the case the last owner has the plate falling off on her) and I'm not keen on sticky pads either.

I'm sure you can use velcro which you can stick to the number plate or remove if required but I'm not sure where you get this from.

Any ideas??

grammer!

what ive done instead is glue some velcro onto the bumper where the numberplate is, then some on the back of my numberplates, then its easy to switch when necessary:thumbup:

Andy2407 - Thanks thats what I was thinking about mate.

Mark - Thanks for the idea mate.

Just buy some plate holders.

You can change them in a few seconds :)

Make sure the surface is clean and dry before you stick... I drove home from Northampton to Newport with no plates on due my laziness lol

But you've not got a private plate ?

So surely the plates will stay with the car.

Drilling my showplates, in case the holes change when I say I purchase my next wee Skoda, don't want the show plates to have holes in them.

I do have a number plate holder but maybe I should purchase the ones you slide in and out, but I like my brisky ones.

If your going to go with show plates and keep swapping your plates I would stick with plate holders! I know people that have had there plates stolen because they were only held on with velcro!

Ahh....yeah, try and get the type i had on my Fabia, just whip the plates in/out and no need for drilling. :)

I got some heavy duty velcro squares from B&Q to hold my column pod on.

Might be worth a look. They come in black or white also.

I used to hold mine on with velcro strips about 2" wide , held the front plate on ok at 140+mph

Only problem was forgetting to swap them back after a show , i drove home a few times on show plates :)

I have a big roll in the garage of velcro and its good strong stuff.

If you want some drop me your address via PM and i'll send you some.

If your gonna get your own don't forget to get enough to do 4 numberplates

Wouldnt this lead to some interesting questions should plod ever find out?

dont know, suppose ill soon find out if they pull me over, its only the front plate that is, and thats because i run a 3/4 size plate normally, and then when they ask i stick the full size plate back on.

I'd be carefull, as they could revoke your plate meaning you'd need to reapply for one at a significant cost. usually only reserve for private plates, they *could* technically revoke any plate if misused.

There is no law/regulation stipulating how your number plate should be attatched to a car so it can be stuck on with bubble gum if you wanted

my plates have been stuck on with velcro for about 4-5years now with no problems what so ever :)

No there isnt, BUT he's using 3/4 plates which he can then swap out at the roadside in front of the police on demand. Which may lead to some interesting questions from plod as to why his plates are quick change.....
