Take your satnav too. Because when the dash reads 145, it's 'only' 138. 140 feels twice as fast as 100, so prepare to poo yourself! Also, your brakes won't work at 140 so be aware that death is imminent if a deer/badger walks out infront of you!

I too can confirm that 140mph feels fecking fast and I'd imagine it would take a long time to brake down to, say, 40mph if one were to try it on an empty stretch of public road..... :eek:

remember double your speed quadrupole your stopping distance atleast!

M40 on a fri or sat night apparently has no police as not enough to cover the town centers as it is.cant confirm this though. Have a look on piston heads to see when they're next having a Vmax day. chances are you'll max out with the gearing at 160ish though

There's a high speed oval bowl at Millbrrok proving ground in Bedford (where they shoot fifth gear) I remember an episode where Jason Plato and Chris Boardman were seeing how fast they could go last season.

I tried to drive on the runway at RAF Boscombe Down once....

I entered the base sideways at 70mph in a Volvo! The three concrete posts and security fence slowed me down somewhat though! FAIL! The two local and three military police units that turned up instantly scared me more though! That was all of 10years ago now, what a spaz I was!

So yeah, speeding hurts............................. your face, limbs and general body region!

Make sure your tyres are tip top if you do try anything, and at the correct pressures obviously. I luckily discovered 2 screws in one of my tyres before going to the Nurburgring last year. I'd imagine it would have hurt if they had decided to depart the tyre while at warp speed on the Autobahn!

I thought it was meant to be pretty difficult to get into millbrook??? would love to have a play on the alpine circuit!

my brother has managed to get onto a few runways at opportune moments but theyre usually pretty dirty places so can cause a fair bit of damage to bodywork.

There's some fairly long straights on the Hullavington trackday that a few off Briskoda are attending next Friday (see my sig for link) - Opportunity I think for a well tuned skoda to reach 120mph before needing to brake.

Not in the SE, but only a little jaunt along the M4.
