Tried an mp3 disc in the head unit of my 2006 vrs and the screen said "CD ROM"

My home cinema system has no such problem, what am I doing wrong?

There are two types of Stream head units. The earlier ones (IIRC would be fitted to an 06) don't play MP3s. If it says MP3 on the head unit, then it's the later one and should play them.

Thats correct, you need a "Stream MP3" headunit which was fitted from late 2007.

which was fitted from late 2007.

Wasn't it fitted at the start of the MY2007 model mannyo, i.e. late 2006?

possibly, I keep getting the MY and years mixed up.

yes late 2006, my 56 plate has the stream mp3, and the wotsit in the jumbo box, which I tend to use the most.

What's the wotsit?

My global Briskoda translator reckons that's the 3.5mm input jack :)

lol - thats the one

Odd! My old VRS. (06), with the standard Stream, would play mp3 disk's that I had burnt.

I was under the impression the only difference was that the newer mp3 Stream that had the jack for ipods.

The old stream has pins for connecting an auxilliary input to the back of the radio too. If you have a CD changer they're already taken though. Still haven't got around to checking an mp3 CD in my radio, but its a 2005 model and I don't see mp3 written anywhere...

Your MP3 discs will have been burnt as audio discs - Nero etc. will convert them on the fly. The newer model can play actual MP3 files e.g. 200 odd songs on a single disc :)
