Mk 1 Fabia Stereo Changeover - Central Locking gone?

Featured Replies

Hi there, it's been a good while since I've last posted, so hi all, hope your doing well.

I've bought an Aldi stereo (Tevion - MP3, SD card, USB port & bluetooth - only £54.99, so a bit of a bargain methinks)

I've spent a horrendous amount of my working day today reading all the posts I could find in the forum on changing over Fabia stereos, and based on this I was able to get the stereo out no problem (after buying Kenwood keys, so cheers to all who pointed that out!)

I also got an aerial adaptor and was able to plug in the two ISO plugs and the aerial at the back no problem.

I switched it on and was able to play CD, radio (reception great with adaptor only - no booster needed) and set the bluetooth up so that I could make and receive calls - so far so great!

However the stereo would not go on without the ignition being on and the radio station settings could not be saved. from my extensive forum reading I realise this is because the "red and yellow" (permanent and switched live) wires are the wrong way round. however none of the wires are yellow?!

I cannot pull the wires out of the ISO connector from the car - do I need to cut and splice the wires to swap them?

Also the remote central locking does not work anymore and the alarm goes off sometimes when manually unlocking the door- will this be solved by swapping the permanent and switched live wires?

Cheers for any help!

CDL wont work as the s contact is being ground out. You need to disconnect that wire in the stereo plug.

Thanks for your reply Lummox - what identifies "S contact", and when I find it should I just cut it and tape-off the end?

Going to Skoda dealership tomorrow to get fascia panel so hopefully can get it all finished up by the end of Sat!

Cheers

I thought I should let you know I got on for the benefit of future stereo changers.

The rear connection of the Tevion unit is just a solid plug embedded in the rear of the unit, so there are no red or yellow wires visible to change. to change over the wires I had to cut the permanent live and switched live (positions 4 & 7 ) wires and switch them - this was done with two scotchlok connectors (30p from local hardware) which seemed to work well - radio settings now store when ignitiion is off and the Central Locking is performing normally. I have not done anything with the K-line wire at the moment...

Radio signal seems to be pretty good, but occasionally crackles - not sure if an aerial booster would help, but it's not a priority at the moment.

Will be trying out the USB player tonight / tomorrow.

The one thing that I had not realised I would miss is the speed-volume control in the OEM unit - it takes a bit of getting used to having to keep changing the volume while driving about town.

Also did not get a call back from Henry's Skoda Glasgow after leaving a message looking for fascia adapter - by the time I called back the parts dept had closed (12noon on a sat)

But all in all pretty pleased with where I am at, and would have struggled without my forum research so cheers!
