Difficulty changing gear

Featured Replies

Mr vRS has always had a problem with getting into 1st unless you're at an absolute standstill. I figured this was just a quirk and after replacing the clutch 9mths ago and moving to a single mass flywheel, it continued. I've since gotten used to it.

A couple of nights ago on the way home, there was a ton of torrential rain and several sections of my route home were flooded. Some people were making it through, so I went for it. Each time, I just made it. However, the gear then really didn't want to select 1st or 3rd and I started to worry. I limped home, still finding it difficult to select those gears.

I left her to dry out for 24hrs or so, then yesterday when it was baking hot and sunny, I took her out for a blast. Felt a little sluggish at top end, but that could be the ongoing boost issue. Today, she feels better again, but I still had a couple of occasions where I had to select 3rd a couple times to get it to work.

Any obvious ideas?

Could be the clutch not clearing correctly, or the gear change cables.

After further observations, it appears the gear stick doesn't sit directly between 3rd and 4th. It's kinda a tiny bit to one side. What does that mean?

Maybe there is a piece of debris trapped in the linkage, maybe the gear linkage needs adjusting.

If you always have sticky gears it's worth putting new gear box oil in the "sealed for life" box if you've done around 50k miles.

Was thinking about this. Will see about getting it done and report back...

The linkages on mine were one of the thinks the mechanic cleaned up when I first bought it as the gears were all a bit on the stiff side.

I had an issue with this as well. Where the cable attatch onto the gear box there is a kind of pivot assymbly. i disconnected the cables and removed the two little retaining clips and gave it all a good greasing never had any problem since.
