Insurance?

Featured Replies

Hi There,

I have recently purchased a lovely Octavia 1 1.9 TDI Elegance which is ideal for my 20k+ miles I do every year. I had a 1.9TDI SLX about 3 years ago but due to my inexperience (I was 17 ) I wrote it off (I didn’t claim on the insurance because it was only myself involved) I have since been working my way back up the car ladder. I have owned many cars since including:

Seat Ibiza 1.4 sxe

LR Discovery 2 TD5 ES

Kia C'eed 1.6 CRDi LS (bought on finance but due to economic downturn I have lost 20% of my pay so it had to go)

106 zest 3 1.5D (this lasted 4 days before somebody went into me in a lane in their discovery, and finished it off)

Saxo 1.5D (this like the 106 was run on Bio Diesel)

And now I'm onto the octavia which I too will run on Bio. but I went to change my insurance the other day from the sax to the octavia and it went form 1,200 to 2,600 (shrieks) bearing in mind the insurance for the kia (14,000 pound car) was also 1,200 so I have been looking around and as my insurance NCB is trapped in my old insurance company I have none!!!

Who do you all insure with the best quote I have got is 1,500 which is form Adrian Flux which I am reasonably happy with, but would like to get it a bit lower!!!

Thanks

Dan

At 22 I was paying less than that on an Octavia vRS!

Shop around :)

Until I had the remap done I used Confused.com for years. I used to get the lowest quote, then call the next lowest on the list and get them to beat that. Once done, I'd use the lowest and call someone else and so on, until the premium was to my liking. It took a bit of time, but was worth it.

I do the same; although this year I was a bit remiss and just let last years policy run on, with the result that that B*****ds stuck the premium up by over £60 without telling me  (well, they did tell me, in a letter which the wife stuck in a drawer somewhere until it was too late to do anything about it:rofl:)

- Out of interest, other than Adrian Flux, (and the companies they use) whom I have a quote from already - what other insurance companies offer insurance for remapers and alloys?

Flux, Chris Knott and Brentacre.

I think they're all brokers though  so not sure who they actually put you with.

To the OP - Main reason you are paying so much is your lack of NCD, even with 3 years driving experience. Shop around like the others have said and try and get an older family member on the policy as a named driver to see if that reduces it at all. If you are paying your insurance in installments consider getting a low interest loan or 0% credit card and paying it in one hit instead as that will save you up to 20%, the repayments on the loan or credit card will be smaller than what you have to repay each month if you do it in installments with the insurer.
