Badge Ego

Featured Replies

Today was exceptional.

Early this morning on empty roads this BMW M5 Convertible (didn't sound like an M5) reverses out of a drive in front of me and then drives along at 20mph. After about a mile we come to some lights, he's clearly lost his right foot so I scoot around and carry on my way at 35mph. 200 yards later he hoons past at 60+ in a 30 limit!

Coming back I left this Merc for dead up a slip road and settle at 75mph, she does well over a 90 to catch up so I pull over to let her past whereupon she slows just as I pull out behind her again and gives me a load of jet washer! She then does 60 in the outside lane and refuses to move over despite the road ahead being completely clear.

Made my day. ;)

Windscreen wash and brake lights work well :)

Do you mean an M6 convertible?

Badge ego makes me chuckle although I do wonder whether it actually exists and if you'd been driving an Audi and had overtaken either of them would their reaction still have been the same?

it was nothing to do with the badge, they just didn't like your driving and by the sounds of it i wouldn't either :)

Who wouldn't nip past someone doing 20mph? You all would if the chance arose and it was safe to do so. Does that justify driving like a loony?

Why race to get past someone who HAS THE MANNERS to let you past and then immediately slow down? The Merc pulled onto the roundabout to the slip road from a different entrance. There was no chance to object to my driving! FYI The screenwash missed me as I was too far back.

:) Love the hypocrisy you get on Briskoda - of course it was their egos dented by a SKODA badge. Funny no one else got upset with my driving. Badge 'snobs' expect you to defer and they think you should be slow.

tosh.

sounds more like you have the badge complex.

I was expecting this to happen to me on the way home from Gaydon , as i was driving a "Bri-Skoda" up the M way ;) but no , I must have passed mercs audis bmws but never had any grief from any of them , even though I was in a bright Blue Skoda with wheeltrims!! :)

About 12 years ago i was driving a renault 5, north up the A9 near Pitlochry following a rather slow Rover 400 saloon so the first Dual section through the pass at Killiekrankie i Pass him at about 75 and gain some distance and slw back to 60 for the single caraigeway section and the come up behind me flashing his lights and waving madly (noticed while passing him he was an elderly gent with handlebar tash and flatcap) so i carry on driving at about 60 and hes behind me for miles, but i manage to sose him on the Drumochter section .... and the fuel light comes on as im reaching Dalwhinnie, so i slow down and pull off into the village and go to the petrol station there and fill up this rover driver comes in behind me and gets out his car and starts going off on one about my driving and says and i quote " People in foreign cars should not overtake British cars dont you know.... " i told him ill over take who i like and continued to fill my car up to which he harrumphed and muttered something about youths should be doing national service and stuff... i had the last laugh as further up the road he was in a lay by with his bonnet up and steam was coming out....

but why would you accelerate like mad along a slip road, only to settle at 75 mph (which, incidentally is over the speed limit) - as Bengie has said, it was more likely your agressive driving which has upset these people far more than the fact that you're driving a Skoda...

...and why overtake someone in a 30 limit? There's just no need:eek:
