Looking to buy a VRS what to look out for?

Featured Replies

Hi guys did do a search but could not find anything

Looking at getting a hatchback VRS for the Mrs must be tdi

Is there anything we should look out for?

All help welcome

Only thing really is to look for the accessory pack most cars came with after 2007.

18" wheels, dual zone climate, jumbo box and rear electric windows.

Thanks whats a jumbo box?

I found out about the green and red calipers

Basically a big storage box in the centre console, with an aux jack for MP3 and rear aire vent controls. Came as standard from about mid 2007

Check the tyres for uneven wear - common on a lot of cars.

Check how the car has been driven. You don't want a low mileage car with a DPF. It would hint at lots of short journeys that clog the filter up and may result in its premature failure.

Thanks guys so apart from the normal checks all ok

Commons problems...

Check the mats aren't wet - door seals are a weak point

Check the paint finish around the areas where the doors meet the main body of the car - if the chassis isn't straight, or if the doors haven't been properly aligned then you'll see paint rubbed off here.

Sit in the car and crank the climate control right down to "LO" and make sure it gets uncomfortably cold - a lot of dealers will try and fob it off as nothing, but there have been a lot of problems with cars leaking gas for no obvious reason, or the compressors being crocked. I had to have mine fixed (under warranty) and it is noe PROPERLY cold, so if it doesn't freeze your bits off, ask why.

Mechanically they're pretty sound (don't believe all the horror stories on here, they really are isolated incidents, it just seems like they've all happened to Briskoda members!)

And haggle like crazy - there are new ones around for £15k, so don't pay over £11k-£12k for a used one, no matter how low the mileage. I paid less than £12k for a 6,000 miler in December, with Satnav, jumbo box, iPod jack, big wheels and all the rest.

Happy hunting!

At least 10miles on duel carriageway before stopping

Totally agree with Soapy on the haggle like hell approach.

I got my 6000 miler Octy 2 VRS PD170 08 plate just over a week ago for 13k including Fabia VRS as part exchange.

Included in price were number plate transfer, new plates and 6 months tax.

I'm a very happy Skoda Driver. :D

Forgot to push for a full tank of diesel though damit. :(

hey im new.

im after one of these myself, how good is the satnav and bluetooth?

are the 18's the same as the 17's just bigger?

is the DSG any good? like manual boxes but heard this is the business.

what options should i really push for?

whats servicing costs like?

sorry its alot of questions .

I shall try to provide a lot of answers!

Firstly, welcome as a newbie :wavey:

Satnav - there are a couple of different systems. The older one is not touch screen, is a bit cumbersome and the update discs are bloody expensive, but it does the job. The newer (Columbus) one is touch screen and apparently a huge improvement. I have the old one so can't comment. Not got bluetooth, so can't help there.

2 kinds of 18" wheels offered on the vRS - zeniths (which are bigger versions of the 17s, but otherwise identical) and B14s, which are 18" 5-spokes with a darker finish and a bit more of a "pimped" look. The vast majority are on zeniths, either 17s or 18s. Popular wisdom is that 18s look better but 17s ride better.

Not driven the DSG, but apparently very good. Only available on the most recent models. The 6-speed manual is perfectly good though (if a bit gravelly from 1st to 2nd on the diesel)

Pretty well specced as standard now, but worth having cruise control, rear parking sensors (really wish I had them) and xenons on. Depends what you want from it really.

And finally - just had the first variable service done on mine at 18k and it was less than £200 at a main dealer.

Mine was £140 at main dealer!!

As mentioned 17"s ride better than 18"s but also cost a damm site less. The 17" is a common size (225/45/17) and so are ten a penny and so cheap, 18's are a rarey size, not as many people make them and so can cost more.

DSG is the shizzle! I'd recommend it :)

My Leon is sitting on 225/40/18 so what size are the vrs 18"s?

I think the same from memory.
