A leaky situation

Featured Replies

Yet another minor problem with my aging Octy 1. Whenever it rains heavily I tend to get water comming in at the bottom of the doors (except the boot and drivers door). The door seals all appear fine and in fact, seem to be keeping the water in! Its difficult to determine, as its obviously got to be raining at the time, to figure out where the water is comming from but I think I can see it comming out between the door and the door card as though my door is filling up then leaking through the bottom of the trim. I say it's difficult to be sure because if I open the door when its raining then everything gets wet anyway. Is it as simple as a blocked drain, which I can't seem to find, or some other easily repaired problem?

Is this going to be the same fix as the well known Fabia leak? My door panels have been removed more times than I care to remember to repair the electric window mechanisms. Is it possible that they didn't seal the door properly again which is giving me this problem? I have had the drivers door done more than any other so I would have thought that would be the worst but that doesn't leak at all.

Sounds the same as the Fabia door carrier seal problem. Door doesn't need to fill up, water that gets past the outer touch seal for the window drips onto the carrier plate due to the shape of the door.

Get someone to slowly pour water over the window with the door open. If water appears under the door card, it's the carrier plate seal leaking.

If you need to seal the carriers, use Unibond 3 in 1 sealant. They will never leak again.

The MK I octy has plastic seals, just like the old cars as opposed to the all in one sealed carriers.
