Powerflex or standard

Featured Replies

yes i guess the weight saving with the h2s stuff might be large over the tt setup, i havent weighed either to tell, its an interesting plan let us know how you get on with it, when are you thinking of doing all this?

The comp brake kit looks awesome for the money, there are some big brake kits out there at the mo using other oem brembos with carriers (i have been playing around with some recently) however the kit we fitted seems to suffer from pedal travel and doesnt have the bite that the vrs has as standard.

I have looked at the hispec stuff too which on paper looks good but i think you get more for your money with the comp brake kit.

Fat boy slim, what balljoint are you using when you use the tt wishbones then and do they require a spacer?

Any pics too please?

Good to see someone else is running this setup here!

Just the MK1 TT lower balljoints ( no spacers, must be TT MK1 though,ARB mounted to the lower wish bone, very early stuff ),****** Images tomorrow.

No need to quote original post. And no advertising!

I was going to be doing it before xmas but the diff was on the way out on my car so I had to fit a Quaife ATB diff, a Sachs clutch and G60 flywheel and a B&M shortshifter (if my wife asks is is "had to" anyway) so I don't know.

If I can sell the Proxxon lathe and milling head I have in the basement I will be able to go ahead before xmas, plus I've got a bit of overtime coming to me.

We'll see, I need to not spend anything on the car in August (need it for the holiday) and I will need to keep most of my cash for xmas gifts in November.

Between that and "paying back" our savings the money for the diff etc. money is going to be a bit tight but I'm addicted now, there's no point in denying it.

I agree with you on the "bang for buck" with the Compbrake kit, I have driven a car with a similar setup and it was amazing, I need that in my life, the AP equivalent is a good £400 more and I'm not sure it's worth the extra...

So you have fitted a diff then.......NICE!

I know what you mean it is addictive and to be honest, if you are going to do something you might as well do it properly, whats the point of uprating the suspension for example but not doing the arbs or changing your bushes......in for a penny....in for a pound (or a lot of pounds!!!)

I think the comp brakes seem the best way for the money as are priced in the same region as the brembo junior kits which are heavier and not 6 pot, the aps are good but have heard they are not the best kits out there by far.

Where are you in the medway? would love to see your car with the diff fitted and see the difference.

Fat boy slim, so you use tt wishbones with tt bushes into a octy/golf hub....is that right? i didnt think the tt balljoin fitted into our hubs, i understood the common way around this was to use a tt wihbone with octy balljoint and a washer to sit the balljoint in our hub properly.

Also the you mention the arb mounting to the wishbone, and this is the case on most golfs an d octavias but not on the vrs/r32 or tt as they arb mounts to the strut.....or are the early early tt wishbones different again?

Do you have any pics?

cheers

The diff is going in as we speak, Quaife have had it for a week now. If I get it back in time I will be at the next White Rabbit meeting, if not you are welcome to meet me any time, I am in Chatham.

It won't be set up properly though, I have just got a couple of R32 wishbones from the scrappy and as soon as I get some more money I'll get the bearings/spindles/top mounts and we'll be golden.

which scrappy did you get the wishbones from, a local one?

cool i am only nr bluewater so not far at all, great will try and catch up when you get the quaife fitted.

If you were after adjustable caster mounts (rear wishbone ones) then look at superpro as the whiteline ones are about £80 plus and you can get the superpro ones for half that

(This is **** Turpin, the infamous highwayman BTW...)

sorry dude:)

Its all bush related though;)

Ha Ha! You'll never stop me! Take this thread to Cuba!

Not that type of Caster/Camber mount, I meant these ones:

Camber/Caster Mounts, VW Mk4 Chassis - 034 MOTORSPORT

I got the wishbones from a scrappy up north over the webbo-net, I will be fitting these bushings:

H2Sport - Sport Control Arms, Mk4 Golf/Jetta | Premier VW/Audi/Porsche Tuning Shop

He has them available for the TT/R32 wishbones but they aren't on the website yet.

I'll keep the standard wishbones with the superpro bushes until I decide whether the spherical bushes are too harsh for on-the-road use.

Bluewater eh?

20 minutes from me then, just PM when you want to come by.

You'll know when the diff is done since I'll be climaxing all over my project thread.

sounds like a plan, cant wait to see the results.....

Better thanks, but it still wants to lift the R/O/S wheel on fast right handers more than left handers...
