Did I do it right? front wishbones

Featured Replies

changed the front wishbones on the weekend but didn't drive the car till today(took it to the garage to have the rear drop links and the spring rubber replaced. picked the car up but it was too late for the retest. when driving there is now a knocking when pulling away? brake then accelerate and it knocks? I did the bolts hand tight then fully tightened them with the car on the floor so not sure what the problem is, any ideas? as it is supposed to be going for the retest in the morning.

OK I figured it out. I did the front bush bolt up when the car was on the floor to 70Nm with the torque wrench as described in the haynes manual. What I missed was the stage 2 instruction to then tighten a further 90degrees. :rotz:

lol well done for finding it

did you speak to kw?

That +90degrees stuff feels so wrong! Feels like the bolts gonna snap!

I forgot to raise the wishbones when I torqued mine up, and did them with no weight on the suspension. Remembered on the way home! Woops. Doesn't seem to have caused any issues though. I guess the only side effect will be a slightly shorter front bush life.

I struggled for room as it was, so how the hell did you get a torque wrench on that bolt with the car on the ground?!

I tried with it on the floor and even on 4x4 it was a tight fit - so i pinched my neighbours ramps so there was weight on the suspension :D

Drove mine up on a couple of pallets - still tight fit for me
