de-assembling mk1 octy mirrors

Featured Replies

tried a search on this but found no joy!?

I wanna take the colour coded caps off my vrs mirrors to respray an re-fit.

Before i do it and break sumfin has anyone else taken off the plastic casing?and if so how and where are the fixings located so i can do it without breaking a clip etc?

I assume you can do it without removing the mirror glass or any of the other fixtures from the main body?

cheers in advance:thumbup:

Sorry to say you have to try and prise the mirror glass off without cracking it or breaking lugs off the back of the glass, once off there is 2 small torx screws inside too undo, then just a case of prising the cover off. Easy enough to do, it's just whether the glass comes off without a fight!!!

I thought there were 2 torx screws on the under side of the mirror that had to be removed to release the top cover?

I had to replace my drivers side mirror cover after standing up under it and cracking it.

I used a wide rice spatular to leaver the mirror off locating on the lower edge of the glass.

I used the spatular cos its nylon and as its curved it touches the glass at 2 points about 50mm apart (less chance of bowing the glass).

When its off you will see the 2 screw heads facing you remove them and the plastic mirror body slides upwards and off its mounting points.

The other screws mentioned (underneath) I seem to remember secure the mirror internal mounting cage to the main black colour body thats underneath, those i dont think i touched.

Hope this helps

Peter
