When accelerating in my VRS (06 plate) the car kind of 'pulses' and won't accelerate until I back off a littel bit and ease the power in more gently, it happens around 3000rpm upwards in 3rd or 4th and I'm not planting it just trying to get a move on. Is it dmf or some kind of boost issue, or something else.

I would start with a fault code scan. It's not the DMF. Could be either a boost leak, or MAF packing in. Also I wouldn't rule out crank position sensor. Code scan will narrow it down.
