Octavia Front Light Become Opaque

Featured Replies

Hello, I have a 2002 1.8 Turbo L&K and one of the Clear lense of the front light is getting opaque. This is not the Zenon type lamps.

I have not take the car yet to the dealer.....I will wait until my next schedule maintenace.

Have any of you have experience something similar?

Maybe a water leak? Is it steaming up?

Just to keep you inform that my dealer change the two front light complete asemblys under guarantee

At the beguining they look like some steaming inside..............But then when I was driving on the rain, and I get to my house there was a lot of small drops of water inside the clear lenses of the front lights. with some time this was making the chrome part inside the lamp to become opaque.....They dont look Shiny any more.....

At the dealer they toll me they have several Octavias with the same problemo.

So talking with the manager, he show me a Skoda info Boletin were they are aware of this situation and explain there to change the lamps under guarante.

If you have this problem...............Dont get rip off, dont pay nothing and tell your Skoda dealer to change it by guarantee.

Some time you see a WHITE fog inside the front lights....... This is OK/NORMAL but if you have drops of water, you have the problem.

Thanks for that info, Isaac. If ever I find that a headlight is misting up I unclip the bulb assembly (holders) and use a hairdryer to get rid of the moisture. That helps prevent the reflector from rusting - which in turn saves having to replace the headlight assembly.

Honda's used to have a similar prob - the hair dryer trick does work but gets a pain every morning...

another option is to drill a small hole in the bottom of each cluster which allows the air to circulate better... great in summer less so in winter.

Another good trick to de-mist with a hairdryer is to direct the airflow through the bulb hole with a piece of old top hose, or any similar hose with a 90 degree curve. Saves having to remove a battery etc.

Come on people, Skoda is producing this model from long time ago. They have the VAG experience. This thing is unaceptable!

This is the first car in my live that suffer this problem.

I think they have several contractors to make the lamps and the one that produce my lamps does not have a good quality control.

My wife 2001 Skoda Octavia Combi 1.6i has not suffer this problem.:D

Bottom Line. There is a lot of people that love Skodas no matter what but is problem like this small things that make people says the car is bad.

I think VAG has to put a harder hand on the contractors to have better quality controls.

What you think???

Isaac

PD: Belive me, no matter what, I Love my L & K

Isaac I agree with you , nobody should have to resort to the hairdryer trick , take it back to the dealer and get him to sort it .

Besides I don't own a hairdryer .......................don't have any need for one ;)

  Honest , you don't have to be a hairdresser to own a yellow vRS :D

But it obviously helps ;)

I have only seen this on an Octavia on a very cold Frosty morning. The inside of the car was a joke too, I couldn't read the speedo because the plastic infront had steamed up too. That would be a interesting one for the police! I don't suppose you have the problem with frost in Panama:D. I always believw VW engineers Skodaness into cars by making cheap little things to remind you your in a Skoda over a VW. I suppose this is just one of these things. Remember it is not in the english frame of mind to complain. Like it or lump it and they tend to lump it!

Talking about headlights... I took the protectors off yesterday to give them a good soak and discovered there were bugs inside the indicators
