Any TV Experts?

Featured Replies

I am being given a Samsung LE32B550A5W, and it has got a damaged screen, looks like something had hit the screen at the top in the middle.

Does anyone know where is the best place to price up a replacement screen, and I am being given the TV, and the fact that it was only 3 weeks old before it got damaged, I wouldn't mind trying to get it fixed.

I know it isn't going to be cheap, so please dont reply just saying that its dear, but if you could give me details of any company, or anywhere where I can get hold if the parts, or someone which can repair I will be very greatful.

Cheers all.

Chris

It'll be cheaper to get a new one.

Did they claim on their home insurance for a new one?

Thanks for the reply, but EVERYWHERE I have read on the internet says exactly what you put, thats why I put about it not being cheap. But I have heard of some people getting theres fixed for around £200.

This is why I am asking and not asked the question of "will it be the same price as buying a new one or not?"

Sorry to sound abrupt, but I asked in a couple of other places, same question, and others did the same, lol.

And I don't know if they claimed on there home insurance or not! Isn't really my place to ask them that.

I know it's not what you want to hear, but if it's physicall wrecked the panel you're not going to be able to get one for less than the £400 or so you could buy the set new for.

Ask one of those people? :)

The cost of the LCD screen as a one off will be more than the cost of a new TV as the manufacturers are buying in huge quantities.

What damage is done to the LCD?

If you're trying to repair your best bet is to find another LCD with the same panel that has been broken in some other ways.

I see where you're coming from, as you had no initial outlay for it - but still....

Anyway, a quick search reveals the following, based in Manchester so fairly local for you:

MWES ltd. the audio visual service centre

Worth a contact and quote perhaps.

There is no point in beating about the bush, the replacement screen will cost more than you going into John Lewis/Curries and buying a brand new TV of the same model. This is why LCD TVs and Monitors are replaced with new ones and the old ones scrapped rather than fixed when the screens are damaged. The LE32B550A5W can be had for just over £400 brand new, and I would expect the screen to be simillarly priced.

Your only hope is to buy another broken one from ebay for example that has another fault (eg. power supply, mainboard failure) and canibalise both TVs to get a working one.

As above really.

The main issue is the cost of the LCD as well as the control board(s) which in some tellys/screens as glued to the LCD.

Some screens in laptops, particulalty Apple, mean it it can be cheaper to buy a new laptop if it breaks

Thanks for the reply, but EVERYWHERE I have read on the internet says exactly what you put

Then take the hint......

If you got it free or dirt cheap then ebay it with a clear and accurate description
