Central Locking - Nearside Front Door

Featured Replies

I'm posting this in case it helps anyone else in the future.

I've noticed my nearside front door has a problem. When you lock the car all the doors, including the passenger front, lock but immediately after the passenger door opens again. No matter how many times I use the fob to activate the central locking it will not work.

I've also tried using the key and the same thing happens except you cant remove the key from the lock unless you open the car again.

I know there are problems with the central locking unit and if i've got my facts right it could be one of the following:

1. Central locking unit/lock in door

2. Central convenience unit

3. Corroded pins

4. wiring loom

What i'm concerned about (apart from security) is that if I continue to try and get the lock to operate it will eventually lock with dealocks and then I cant open the door at all.

The local dealer (Bickertons) have been helpful and they know of the problem so are aware of the possible options it could be. Now heres the scarey part. Prices quoted were as follows:

Parts only - labour to be added

1. £103

2. TBC

3. £400-£500 - Around £450

4. £400-£500

So potentially if you start at number 1 (the obvious and cheapest) and the problem isnt solved till number 4 you could have spent around £1,500 Inc labour and thats only for one door:eek: If the deadlocks have set expect that figure to rise.

Now you can reduce the bill by buying second hand parts, doing it yourself or taking it to somewhere cheaper than a main dealer but its still not going to be cheap.

I have vagcom so I scanned my car last night and got the following:

Special Notes

NAR (North American Region) Models do NOT have a SAFE-Switch in their door locks, once these models are being wrongly equipped with a RoW (Rest of World) door lock, a SAFE feedback signal is being sent which causes this code.

I've booked my car in for the module and lock. Main dealer price fitted is approx £180. Lets hope it solves the problem. Implausible signal could also easily be a wiring problem:eek:

This is based on information I have received so far. If anyone knows any different or can add anything useful please post your experiences.
