Best recovery service/insurance?

Featured Replies

Has anyone got any opinions on the best recovery service or recovery insurance to use? I'm currently with Autonational Rescue but it ends in a couple of weeks so I'm investigating other possibilities.

I've been paying £66 a year for the full service i.e. home start, roadside, recovery to any destination, onward travel etc etc

Any opinions welcome

Is this in the wrong section? Or does no one use a recovery service? :(

I used Tesco vouchers to get a cheap deal with the RAC. When I needed to call them out they were superb.

Was previously with the AA who I wasn't impressed with.

Thanks centretap. You must be the only person on here who a recovery service, unless everyone just hates me :(

Have a look here Breakdown cover: Get the cheapest roadside recovery policies...

I've never had to buy any roadside recovery because I was covered under my parents AA family cover and then started buying new cars that came with recovery!

What I would say is that some companies don't cover accident recovery - A lot of accidents I've attended have been a bit of a double blow for people when they realise not only is their car in bits they're also going to have to pay a couple of ton to get the car removed from the middle of the road!

I have RAC cover. I think it's about £7 per month for the one I have. I've had AA cover in the past and was not impressed with the service when I had to call them out (on several occasions). I've only had to call the RAC out twice since I started using them in 2003 but both times they have been superb.

I use the Tesco vouchers to get RAC full cover for me and swmbo. Only time i've needed it in the last few years was for accident recovery, and it took a while for them to get to me, but it costs me nothing so musn't grumble.

Dammit!! I've just followed the link provided by DangerMouse and discovered this:

Quotelinedirect*

£59 for the works, including up to 90 days European cover.

That in itself isn't a problem, it's a great deal, but on 19 June I went and booked a one-off trip cover with BreakdownDirect for £33, for our holiday to France, and the 14-day cooling off period has definitely gone.

I could have had a year's UK cover and 90 days Euro cover for £59, and not £92 as it will be now.:mad:

What do you reckon my chances are of getting a refund from BreakdownDirect? :(

Just bought my cover with 90 days Euro cover and canceled the single-trip insurance for a £15 admin fee, so I got £18 back for that. Better than losing £33 I suppose
